Responsible Data Alliance Supports Legislation to Enact National Data Privacy Rules, Protect Consumers, and Combat Fraud
Washington, DC, April 22, 2026 – The Responsible Data Alliance issued the statement below in support of legislation released today by the House Privacy Working Group Chairman John Joyce and the House Financial Services Committee Vice Chairman Bill Huizenga to enact privacy protections for all Americans:
“The Responsible Data Alliance supports this common-sense approach to establish a single set of strong privacy protections nationwide.
Representative Joyce’s bill, H.R. 8413, incorporates provisions that enjoy bipartisan support and have been enacted by elected officials of both parties in a broad cross-section of states.
Representative Huizenga’s legislation, H.R. 8398, preserves important provisions in the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) that permit the use of data to protect consumers from fraud and identity theft, while allowing businesses to ensure they are dealing with the real customer. As financial institutions work to keep pace and develop new approaches to combat increasingly complex fraud strategies, often enhanced by AI, these provisions help them leverage specialized expertise and technology while maintaining a high standard of data security.
We encourage Congress to enact these important bills to protect consumers and promote innovation, while avoiding a fragmented system of state laws.”
