Responsible Data Alliance Highlights Consumer Benefits in the Data-Driven Economy Ahead of Federal Trade Commission Workshop
Washington, DC, February 24, 2026
The Responsible Data Alliance, a trade association that promotes trust, privacy, and innovation in the data ecosystem, highlighted the many benefits that consumer data deliver ahead of this week’s Federal Trade Commission (FTC) workshop aimed at helping the FTC to “better understand and measure consumer injuries and benefits that may result from the collection, use, or disclosure of consumer data.”
“The Responsible Data Alliance and its member companies applaud the FTC’s initiative to learn more about data collection and use and their impact on consumers,” said Emilio Cividanes, a partner at Venable LLP who serves as counsel to the Alliance. “We believe it is critical for the FTC to understand how data is essential to helping businesses, government, and nonprofits to prevent fraud, mitigate risk, and protect consumers. The Responsible Data Alliance will continue to contribute to policymakers’ and regulators’ knowledge in this area.”
The Alliance’s member companies help a broad range of entities make better decisions, pursue innovation, expand services to consumers, verify identities, manage risk, support compliance and prevent criminal activity.
Among the services and benefits that the Alliance’s member companies provide are:
- Protecting consumers when they shop, bank online, apply for or use other financial services, and participate in other daily activities. Members detect fraud and identity theft, scams, and other illicit activities that harm consumers and threaten to disrupt the fabric of our economy.
- Ensuring government benefits reach eligible people and protect taxpayer money. Members provide services that confirm eligibility for benefits, prevent fraudsters from stealing these benefits, stop improper government payments, and otherwise protect the integrity of government programs and guard against waste, fraud, and abuse.
- Making households, nonprofits, businesses, and communities stronger and more secure. Members provide essential intelligence to support sound decision making and to assess and mitigate risks, thereby enabling the delivery of products, services, and long-term investments that make our country successful.
- Promoting public safety. Members help federal, state, and local government agencies investigate and prevent a wide range of criminal activity, from financial fraud and cybercrimes to human trafficking and other violent offenses.
- Supporting compliance with federal law. Members assist businesses in complying with anti-money laundering and know-your-customer legal requirements, thereby facilitating transparent and lawful business operations that mitigate risk and protect consumers.
