Leading Companies Form Responsible Data Alliance to Advocate for Policy Solutions to Protect Consumers and Preserve Responsible Data Use
Washington, D.C.
Leading companies that promote trust, privacy, and innovation in the data industry have joined to form the Responsible Data Alliance, a new trade association focused on advocating for policy solutions that protect consumers and preserve responsible data use. The association will remind policymakers and the public about the benefits of responsible data practices for consumers, businesses and governments and encourage the development of legislative and regulatory approaches that advance these benefits, including a uniform, preemptive national privacy law.
Members of the Responsible Data Alliance are leading companies that work with institutions of all kinds to prevent fraud, mitigate risk, and protect consumers. Their services benefit consumers, businesses of all sizes, and the broader economy. Founding members include Cotality, Innovis, LexisNexis Risk Solutions, SentiLink, Socure, Verisk, and Xactus.
Members help a broad range of entities use data to make better decisions, pursue innovation, expand services to consumers, verify identities, manage risk, support compliance, and prevent criminal activity.
Among the services and benefits that member companies provide are:
- Protecting consumers when they shop, bank online, apply for or use other financial services, and participate in other daily activities. Members detect fraud and identity theft, scams, and other illicit activities that harm consumers and threaten to disrupt the fabric of our economy.
- Ensuring government benefits reach eligible people and protect taxpayer money. Members provide services that confirm eligibility for benefits, prevent fraudsters from stealing these benefits, stop improper government payments, and otherwise protect the integrity of government programs and guard against waste, fraud, and abuse.
- Making households, nonprofits, businesses, and communities stronger and more secure. Members provide essential intelligence to support sound decision making and to assess and mitigate risks, thereby enabling the delivery of products, services, and long-term investments that make our country successful.
- Promoting public safety. Members help federal, state, and local government agencies investigate and prevent a wide range of criminal activity, from financial fraud and cybercrimes to human trafficking and other violent offenses.
- Supporting compliance with federal law. Members assist businesses in complying with anti-money laundering and know-your-customer legal requirements, thereby facilitating transparent and lawful business operations that mitigate risk and protect consumers.
“The member companies of the Responsible Data Alliance are uniquely positioned to understand and explain how responsible data practices drive the economy and support the delivery of essential services to consumers and businesses,” said Brian Tengel, an attorney with Venable LLP who serves as counsel to the Alliance. “As ethical and trusted stewards of data, they are committed to ensuring that policymakers preserve and uphold the ability of our member companies to use data for these beneficial use cases while avoiding policies that unintentionally harm consumers and the economy.”
